A series of ten images of waves captured in stasis. Unique vibrations that will never be captured again. The original images were taken during the shooting of a video short "Waves/Vague" by art co-lab rosaXtina which used data from the International Organisation on Migration of the dead and missing in the Straits of Gibraltar. The lives of those lost crossing from Morocco to Spain sadly is reported as a set of statistics, nothing more. The artist, Sonia Janin, inspired the series with her thoughtful insight of waves holding the memories of those lost out in the deep. I spent many nights thinking of this, and began to realise that waves or frequencies as they crashed to the shore contained rich data (shape, sound, energy, density and force) that may be highly significant if only we knew (or remembered) how to read (or listen) to that data. Messages contained within a single moment, sent from the deep to warn us? To greet us? To remind us of something primeval that we have long forgotten?
Each image is available in a limited edition of 10 as Giclée Prints on Hahnemuhle German Etching Cotton Textured paper (50cm x 55cm) and come with a hologram registered Certificate of Authenticity which references the edition number, as well as a personal letter from the artist.
